Photographic Drawings with Ants (Giclée on Photorag )

49.4×40cm

The Solution pieces are collaborative photographic drawings with ants. On a piece of white paper, the artist made a drawing with a sweet solution which she then placed on the ground for a while to let ants colonise it. Then she took a photograph of the result.

Marisa Culatto is a multimedia artist born in the Canary Islands and based in the UK.

Nature, constraints, domesticity and daily rituals are at the centre of her practice. She is also interested in the notion of reality being a construct, and, therefore, much of her work addresses contradictions, misperceptions and/or a degree of visual ambiguity. And because of her ambivalent relationship with the photographic medium, she has often explored photography itself as subject.

Culatto has exhibited her work internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her work is in many private collections around the world. Her book Flora: A Frozen English Garden was published in 2023 with Black Dog Press.
