LOUISE FRANCES SMITH

2023

Wireweed and bladderwrack seaweed bioplastic, cotton scrim,

cotton thread.

39 x 22 x 7 cm

Louise's most recent work consists of a series of sculptures made of locally collected wireweed seaweed (Sargassum Muticum), an ‘invasive’ species that is thriving due to climate change. Louise has

used the abundant wireweed seaweed to create a bioplastic, mixed with fabric to create an experimental sculptural material.
