Peonie Chorus was inspired by a fragment - ‘The Peony / Quivers’ from an 18th century haiku by Yosa Buson (1716-83) and further by Mary Jacobus writing on ‘Reading Twombly’. She writes…’ The image of the peony condenses motion and emotion, transferred from a source of external disturbance to an internal state, rendered here as an opaque and unknowable cloud.’
