NANCY FOUTS

Archival inkjet print on Hahnemühle Photo Glossy 280gsm

42 × 29·7 cm

Edition #24 of 25

American-born Nancy Fouts made a reputation in the burgeoning British advertising industry during the 1960s, as a visionary image-maker with a narrative twist. She co-founded the pioneering design and model-making company Shirt Sleeve Studio, creating seminal ad campaigns before focusing on her art practice, which is playful, witty, and provocative. The artworks of this modern-day surrealist and prankster frequently explore themes of time, religious iconography, nature and humour. The artist works typically with everyday objects, injecting them with her unique wit and manipulating them in such a way that we seem to recognise them for the first time.

For the Portfolio the artist sculpted and photographed a glowing lit match reminiscent of a tulip — the flower that attracts humans like moths to a flame.
