Demelza Watts - Hot and Cold

2022
2 Cotton Handkerchiefs
33 x 33 cm each

The work is two handkerchiefs one printed with the image of the ocean on fire, the other with an image of the Sahara desert covered in snow. It's a reflection on extremes, change and our relationship to the planet and its ecosystems. I chose handkerchiefs unknotted, as when I was a child I remember being told that you put a knot in your handkerchief to remember something. The lack of knot here leaves the question of is this something we forgot, or something we are choosing to not remember.

Demelza Watts - Hot and Cold
